The first 100% composite lightweight combined kerb bridge drainage system
PDS have many years experience in the design, manufacture and supply of continuous combined kerb bridge drainage. Our policy of continual product innovation has led to the development of the Envirodeck - a lighter, stronger and greener combined bridge drainage system than any other on the market. The non-metallic Envirodeck can help you meet the demands of health and safety, project efficiency, component quality and bridge aesthetics.
The success of Envirodeck has recently seen it overtake our established Hydrodeck range to become the number one selling bridge drainage system in the UK and Ireland.
‘The advantages considered with the Envirodeck were that it was a single colour product of high durability, eliminating the need for any maintenance. Each individual unit can be handled by one man, and it's fully compliant with the manual handling regulations. Any other product would require a two-man lift or mechanical plant to help lift it into place’.

Features and Benefits
Lightweight
Envirodeck is made from a composite non-metallic material. The unit weight is reduced by over 50% compared to traditional metallic drainage units, saving precious dead weight on new and refurbished bridge structures and reducing the amount of traffic needed to transport units to and from the site.
Innovative Design
The Envirodeck is a single-piece product that provides both surface drainage and sub-surface drainage. The unit is specifically designed for bridges where the depth available for installation is lower than for carriageways.
Manual Installation
The reduced weight of the unit falls well within the guidelines for manual handling, eliminating the need for on-site machinery for installation. Evidence from contractors suggests this can reduce installation times dramatically.
Health and Safety
Envirodeck has a unique anti-slip pattern to comply with anticipated new legislation. The top surface has a “low tendency to slip” reading - impossible to achieve with metallic units and a Health and Safety benefit on bridges with pedestrian access.
The lighter weight also means fewer workplace injuries - and subsequently fewer lost workdays or costly compensation claims.
Aesthetics
The composite material used for Envirodeck is non-oxidising, so the product does not rust. This means the finished project will maintain its appearance for longer - an important benefit when you consider rusting or corroded metallic drainage units are a common sight even on recently completed bridges.
Envirodeck is supplied as standard in concrete grey to match kerb lines. However it can manufactured in any RAL/BS colour to complement the bridge design and surroundings. This has the benefit of clearly delineating the road edges.
Hydraulic Efficiency
Envirodeck has a high quality “glasslike” finish. As well as improved aesthetics, this means the channel surface gives a more efficient hydraulic flow, which in turn improves the self-cleansing ability of the system.
The finish also provides a reduction in the build up of silt and associated weed growth that causes system blockages in traditional drainage - which means less unscheduled maintenance.
Precision Manufactured
Envirodeck is a precision made product and the unit finish far exceeds that of metallic systems. Smooth edges make the unit easier to handle.
Envirodeck is available in a wide range of widths and depths, as well as half-battered or 45 degree splayed styles, to meet project requirements.
Durability
Envirodeck is tested to Group D400 loading class and exceeds the strength required for kerbside systems under European standard EN1433.
The Envirodeck unit is highly resistant to side impact, the main cause of failure in many kerbside type installations.
The composite material is fully resistant to all types of chemicals in petrol, diesel and oil, and is not affected by UV.
Quality Assurance
Envirodeck is fully compliant to the European EN1433 specification and bears the CE mark of quality. PDS have full ISO9001 Accreditation (Management Systems). In addition and essential for full compliance to the EN1433 standard, our manufacturing facilities have full ISO 9000 series Accreditation and Quality Assurance.
Envirodeck also fully complies with both the IAN117/08 from the Highways Agency, and the TS IA 28 from Transport for Scotland.

“The Hunslet Viaduct on the Leeds Inner Ring Road utilises over 10,000 Envirokerb units on the carriageway and Envirodeck is used on the bridge itself for surface and sub-surface drainage.”
